It is the biggest fight of his career and a victory would open up a whole new scene for the 21 year young Swede Sanny Dahlbeck. He know this and feels it, but tries not to be influenced by it. Something that is easier said then done for a young man with appetite for success. |

Only 21 years young Sanny Dahlbeck from Stockholm Sweden already has achieved great success in the ring. With 24 wins in 29 fights, 13 knockouts and titles at Swedish – Nordic and World Championships he is rightfully regarded as a possible future Swedish star. Within less then three weeks he will enter the ring again, this time for the biggest fight of his career as he enters the Glory World Series First 16 competition. “I was informed about the event by my coach Peter Lööf about four weeks ago, it was incredible! That whole day I was completely hyped. I knew that it would be a big event but not nearly this big. At first I did not know what type of fight I would be in, but then I checked Glory`s Facebook page and saw my name as a participant in the First 16 line-up, I don’t know what went through my mind, it was just crazy”. The fighter who will square off with Sanny in the ring on the 26th of May is the solid Estonian kick-boxer Maxim Vorovski who already has fought battles of the highest standard. In these fights he has proven to be a tough man to beat with the ability to not only deliver but also absorb huge shots. Similar to Sanny, Maxim is also very skilled with his hands and has only 2 losses in 22 fights including 10 wins by knockout. “I know he’s good, he hits fast and hard and has good balance. I would say he has a rather classic Dutch style and I know that he is very tough. But I cant really say that I have studied him, I rarely do that with any opponent. The most important thing for me is to focus on what I need to do and not adapt myself too much after my opponent. But I know this will be a really tough fight and I rather overstate my opposition than underestimate it. “ In case of a win against Maxim at the Globe Arena Sanny will progress further in the competition and on to the next round, the lavish tournament final, where the winner receives fame, glory and also a healthy check worth 300 000 Dollars. A lot of money for a young man who work part time at two different jobs to get by. “I want to keep my feet on the ground and take one fight at a time, but I cant deny that I have been thinking about what I could do with the money. It’s really a big amount and if I win them I would most likely try to invest them. Probably buy an apartment. Then I would invite friends and family for something really huge!” Regarding the competition Sanny speaks of himself as a constant underdog no matter who he eventually would face further on. This since all the other participants are more experienced then him and also, in most cases, already established stars. “Of course it could be a advantage for me that the other fighters have more pressure on them to win, but it feels weird at the same time when people think that I will go out and lose. But in the end this is all about proving something to myself. It is more important than money and all that. The fight against Maxim is a real measure of value, if I can manage myself at this level, I have reached the top only 21 years old. There are other events and other major competitions, but the participants are basically the same, or at least the same level. So if I can handle them here I can probably handle them anywhere. Of course I want to win, for everyone who believes in me, for anyone rooting for me and for myself. But I will not take anything for granted, I just want to put on a good show, though I know I still have to be humble.” Sweden is undergoing something of a generational change among Muay Thai and Kickboxers where the former big names one by one disappeared from the spotlight. Sanny stands on the frontier of the new stable of young men and women who are up and coming. He knows this himself but doesn’t want to make a big deal out of it. “Everyone says that to me all the time, “I’ll be the next star”. It’s fun to hear and it feels great that there are so many who believes in me. But I see myself for who I am, and where it leads only the future can tell. Of course I have sometimes questioned myself, if this really is what I should do. Then you win a fight and that feeling is unbeatable. Then there is also the joy to share the success with all who believes in me and support in adversity, that means a lot.” With barely three weeks away from the event Sanny is now undergoing the final finishing touches to his training, it is at least one session a day at the Slagskeppet Muay Thai gym and outdoor running several times a week. It apparent that the big day is close as Sanny is unable to hide his emotions. “I train at least once a day. Earlier I used to train two or three times a day but now I instead focus on training really hard when I train. If I am supposed to do fifteen rounds of kicks I will do them even if I am totally exhausted after four.” - So, how nervous are you? “Nervous? well, crazy nervous! Of course you’re nervous prior to a fight like this, but all humans are human, he (Maxim) is as much a man as I am, so, anything can happen. Either way I will do my best and I want to give the audience an awesome show and at the same time have a great time myself.” Text / Interview |
